Timeshare Review: Diamond Resorts - Royal Palm Beach Resort

January 5th, 2009

Diamond Resorts - Royal Palm Beach Resort (previously Sunterra)

Soak up the warm sun, sea and sand while at Royal Palm Beach Club. You’ll find plenty of activities to fill your hours– both in the daytime and well into the night on this tropical half-Dutch, half- French island. At the beach you can swim, water ski, jet ski, snorkel, or sail. Take a dip in the resort’s oceanfront pool. Excellent bargains in Duty Free shopping can be found in nearby Marigot on the French side or Philipsburg on the Dutch side. The island also boasts a large number of gourmet restaurants. Day trips to some of the neighboring islands are a must for sightseers.

All the timeshare suites are beachfront, and the resort offers an overflowing-style swimming pool right on the beach, a sundeck, and picnic area with barbecue grills. You’ll enjoy steel bands, carnival dancers, sunset cruises, twilight buffets, and spectacular sunsets. A complimentary shuttle service is available to take you to Royal Palm Beach Resort’s sister property, Sunterra’s Flamingo Beach Resort, where you can take advantage of the beach and even more amenities. Royal Palm is just a five-minute drive from the airport.

All accommodations are beachfront at Royal Palm Beach Resort. Situated on a beautiful bay, with a picturesque backdrop of rising green hills and Caribbean splendor, your stay promises to be a tropical delight.

With superb views of the brilliant blue sea, strolls on the powdery white sand and a resort complete with poolside bistros, steel bands and spectacular sunsets, who could ask for more?

Taking a timeshare vacation at fully equipped Royal Palm Beach Resort promises fun-filled days with a variety of water sports on the secluded beach, tennis and golf and the exuberance of Caribbean nightlife.

The timeshare unit was very spacious, and had a full kitchen, king beds in both bedrooms, and US cable channels. With all of the fabulous restaurants in the area, we did not use the kitchen for anything except coffee and a light lunch. The weather is always nice and there was a balcony off of the living room with a beautiful view of the pool, beach and ocean. There was a large pool with a swim-up bar, small beach with chairs, and an open-air restaurant on the premises. Additionally, there were several concessionaires on the premises as well - video and cell phone rental, fitness center, water sports rentals, deli/liquor store, internet café, and others. A security guard controlled access to the parking lot.

The staff is very courteous and helpful. Rooms come with complimentary maid service daily during your week. You are allowed to use the facilities at the other Sunterra resort - the Flamingo that is located just across the bay. There is complimentary shuttle service between the two locations.

The activities desk in the lobby could arrange off-site activities such as dinner cruises, horseback riding, day trips to other islands, and the like.

The resort was located in Simpson Bay, which is about 10 minutes from the airport. There are many restaurants and casinos in the area within walking distance.

Spent time in the two capitals of Phillipsburg and Marigot. The timeshare resort and island are suitable for couples or families. One can relax or party as much as you want.

If fishing is more your style, the Hawaiian International Billfish Tournament is held every August. This tournament is one of the most prestigious international fishing tourneys, where angler teams from many countries compete along the Kona Coast to catch, tag, and release the largest Pacific Blue marlin.

There are no activities at this resort and they have only 7 timeshare units the rest are private condos or rentals. There is a pool which was pleasant and not crowded. Again there is a pool key which you get and you must open the gate to use the pool. This was a very quiet resort . Also the road is divided a bit so you walk with the traffic as there are no curbs.

The Resort Features:

* lush, mature, tropical landscaping that is well maintained
* location–across Alii Dr from a small, ocean front park, and within walking to all of the restaurants in Kailua village
* large, poolside grill
* a well maintained pool

Kona Coast is located in a gated community that offers every amenity that one could hope for in a vacation destination. The property is approximately 20 years old but the age of the facility was not apparent. The unit was very large, approximately 2400 square feet living with two patios, one up adjacent to the master bedroom and one downstairs off the living area. The kitchen was spacious and had every amenity one would expect, all in working order. The two bedrooms upstairs each had king beds and baths adjacent to each. The bedroom downstairs had a queen bed. All bedding was in excellent condition and the accommodations in general were excellent.

Golf is available at the resort, beaches are within walking distance. Other features at the property included hosted events by staff that were well run and informative. Facilities associated with the resort including the pools, spas, outside gas grills etc. were used and in excellent condition. The sales staff at the property was available but not overly pushy.

The Kona Reef Resort Review

December 31st, 2008

Own one of the timeshare resales at The Kona Reef Resort and enjoy a great vacation in the privacy of your own one, two, or three bedroom condominium suite. This 57-unit timeshare resort offers all the comforts of home including a washer/dryer and fully equipped kitchen with refrigerator, oven/stove, microwave, and dishwasher. One bedroom suites feature a queen bed in the bedroom, and a sleeper sofa in the living area. Two-bedroom suites feature a king bed in the master bedroom, two twin beds in the guest bedroom, and a sleeper sofa in the living area. Three bedroom suites are a combination of a one and two bedroom suite.

The swimming pool at Kona Reef overlooks the great Pacific Ocean, perfect for a Mai Tai toast as the sun sets. Soak in the jet spa, or relax on the sun deck with a book. Barbecue a meal outdoors, or meet friends at the pavilion for your own private luau.

Near the resort is Kailua-Kona, a historic fishing village now filled with restaurants, shops, historical and religious sites, and of course grocery and convenience stores to stock up on vacation necessities. Just a short walk from the Kona Reef is a white sand beach, perfect for snorkeling or just laying out.

The Kona Reef is located at the south end of Kona within easy walking distance to many shops and eating/drinking establishment. This resort has a great location, right on the water, so you can listen to the waves and watch the surfers or the moon on the water. The pool was very nice, and the resort is ocean front, and near a beach that might be swimmable some of the time. Short walk to the town of Kona. From a location point of view this is a ten.

Westwind Club Review

December 28th, 2008

Westwind Club, on the ocean with a desirable Cable Beach address, is known for intimate quality and friendliness. Only 22 cottage units, each with a private patio, share a small, private beach, a heated outdoor pool, and a spacious clubhouse with a snack bar. Rent a motorized rubber raft to visit a nearby island great for picnicking and snorkeling. Guests savor sunrises and sunsets from the on-site terrace, which juts into the ocean. The resort is a 10-minute walk from groceries, shopping, casinos, and restaurants. Downtown is only a jitney ride away.

The resort is a small timeshare resort and everyone is very friendly. The units have one good size bedroom and a loft bedroom with two twin beds ( a surprize for units listed as one bedroom ). The beach is small but very nice. People come to The Westwind Club timeshare when they want to relax.

There are only 22 timeshare units but they are nicely maintained, very clean with updated appliances. The grounds, pool area and clubhouse were all well kept. There is a small private beach area where you could take deck chairs down tothe water. The staff were very friendly and cooperative. Because of the smallness of the resort, people were more willing to socialize but at the same time, leave you alone if you wanted privacy.

There were several good restaurants within a 10 minute walk. A grocery store was also an easy 10 minute walk from the resort. The local bus service (jitney) stopped in front of the resort and, you could take the bus into downtown Nassau . You were also only about a 10 minute walk from the casino at the Crystal Palace.

La Quinta Beach Resort Review

December 27th, 2008

Aruba’s Eagle Beach is the setting for La Quinta Beach Resort - a great alternative to the hustle and bustle of large hotels. The resort offers a relaxing, stress-free environment and quaint surroundings with all the comforts of home. Some units have private whirlpools. On-site are two outdoor pools and a pool bar.

La Quinta Beach Resort was a wonderful, small scale resort as it contains only 54 units which provides for a quiet, peaceful atmosphere. Though the resort is located across a small road from the beach, we could walk to the beach in less than 2 minutes. The resort provides lounges and cabanas for their guests which are very useful as the sun is quite intense.

The public buses stop very near the resort making it most convenient to travel either into Oranjestad, or to the lighthouse at the northern section of the island. The cost to ride the bus is very cheap, but if you want a transfer, which can be used to either catch another bus or return trip.

Units vary from Studios to 3 bedrooms with a lock-off. The main portion of this unit was very spacious with a full kitchen, dining area, living area, nice balcony, hot tub on balcony, large master bedroom, and medium size bathroom. Only 1 television located in the living room. The resort did provide dishwasher soap and dishwashing liquid which is included in daily maid service. Coffee filters were provided. Blow dryers were provided in the bathroom. The lockout unit contained a bathroom, king size bed, kitchenette and TV.

The resort has 2 pools, restaurant, and pool-side bar on-site. The surf is very rough on the north side, but very scenic. Goats roam freely in the interior of the island, and are quite interested in the tourists, but pose no problems. Wild donkeys roam also, but since their numbers are limited. Wild parrots fly about the island, even around the resort.

The weather on Aruba is wonderful. The sun is very intense and precautions should be taken. Be prepared for windy conditions and don’t expect your hair to stay in place. The wind is a blessing due to the intense sun/heat.

Be prepared to spend more for meals than you are used to. Dinners run about $70 for 2 excluding drinks. All in all, Aruba was wonderful, and La Quinta was very enjoyable.
