Antigua is a delightful place to visit with friendly people, and Jolly Harbour is a great base to explore the island! We visited Jolly Harbour for one week in 2008.
The resort is comprised of 23 time share units and all of the 2-bedroom timeshare units have been renovated and OPBM is now renovating the 1-bedroom units. Each unit is 2-story, with 2 balconies overlooking the marina withdock access. Each unit has 2 1/2 baths with showers.
Most visitors rented cars, and driving is on the left, which is a strange change. The grocery store in Jolly Harbour is open late and we had no problem getting supplies. The capital is a 20-minute bus ride away and we visited St. John’s on market day for fresh fish, fruit, and vegetables. Nelson’s Dockyard and Shirley Heights (on the south side of the island) are well worth the visit.
We visited a different beach each day, and Half Moon Bay Beach is just beyond Shirley Heights and is considered the most beautiful of Antigua’s 365 beaches.
For dining out, Jolly Harbour has excellent restaurants. We tried Melini’s (Italian) and Peter’s (steak house) and both are recommended! In the adjacent shopping complex, there is a great liquor store, a pharmacy. Groceries in Jolly Harbour are reasonable by Caribbean standards.
We strongly recommend the Eco Tour by Adventure Antigua. We also recommend going for lunch at the Sticky Wicket Restaurant directly across the street from the airport. The restaurant overlooks the Sanford cricket pitch where the 20/20 championship is played each February!
