Timeshare Resales - Resort Review

Monday, June 30th, 2008

Casa del Mar Beach Resort is a mile-and-a-half from Oranjestad on Aruba’s southern shore, an oasis rimmed with seven miles of beaches and dotted with resort hotels. Everything for a great vacation is at your doorstep, from daytime activities to local nightclub fun. Water sports lead the list of recreational pastimes. Spend time exploring the city of Oranjestad, known for its lovely Dutch architecture and fashionable duty-free shops. Close by, you can enjoy 18 holes of golf at Tierra Del Sol Golf Course, a championship course designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr.

Check-in was very orderly and easy to go through. The bell staff are great–front desk will change your large bills and travelers checks. The staff is responsive and helpful. Internet service is available either at the Business Office or in your suite for a fee. Be sure to get the password and sign up at the Business Office if you will be using your laptop in your suite.

The 2 Bedroom suites are quite comfortable. The floor plan is a split plan, and guests can have private access to the guest bedroom. The pull out couch is in the living room, and the guest bath is near the guest bedroom. Maximum occupancy is SIX–and management will not allow more. They are also aware that some folks who book the one bedroom units which only hold 4 often try to claim that RCI didn’t tell them that there was only one bath and not two double beds. A one bedroom is across a small street, away from the beach, but easily accessible to the beach.

There is a king sized bed in the one bedroom, and a pull out couch in the living/kitchen/dining area. There is one bath between the bedroom and the living area. If you get a one bedroom, you cannot upgrade for free and they will not help you work it out with RCI, but they will advise you to contact RCI for help.

There is no dishwasher, but soap and sponge and dish cloths are provided. There are no filters given for coffee pot, #4 filters are needed for most. There is a blender and plenty of utensils/pots/pans/ etc. Whatever special needs you might have the housekeeping staff will try their best to help.

The living area and master bedroom have access to the balcony, which is a nice sized tiled area with a rack to dry your bathing suit. The master bath has a dressing area with mirror and vanity table and also a sunken tub, and the toilet area has a large vanity with drawers and a medicine chest. It is well lit and has a shower. The quality of linens and towels are very good. Maid service is provided each day, fresh towels are available on request, and the bed linens are changed mid-week.

The a/c is not run by a thermostat–it is a water chilled system–and that can be a problem depending on your unit. Sometimes a unit can be quite chilly, or seem less cool than you would prefer. Call maintenance and they will do everything they can to fix it to your needs. We had several maintenance requests and the staff fixed them in a jiffy.

There is a safe in the dining area closet. Closet space is more than adequate. Satellite TV provides a variety of channels and an in house movie channel shows a different film each day–be warned, there is no way to prevent children from seeing some shows that might not be appropriate unless you use the remote to block the channel.

The pool is great. Safety is an issue–and the pool persons and security try to keep glass from being used around the pool and Jacuzzi. The drinks and service and food quality and prices were terrific. There are plenty of chickees for shade both on the beach and at the pool. Pool towels are provided and you can exchange them ONCE a day at the towel station.

The beach is a problem–Mother Nature doesn’t treat CDM beach kindly, it is a beach that comes and goes. Some years it is longer, some years it is short. But a short stroll over to Aruba Beach Club or Manchebo Resort is all it takes to find a wider beach.

There are great places to eat around the area.

Timeshare Resales - Resort Review

I’ve stayed at Tamiment before and have enjoyed the golf course. Unfortunately, that’s about all that’s left. All of the items noted as being on site are no longer available except golf and the lake.

Phase 1 and Phase 2 are the same units a culdesac away. Phase 3, the newest, are actually
further away from the lake. We were pleasantly surprised with our unit. It was much bigger inside than the pictures showed and everything was clean and new. We found out that phase 1 was refurbished 2 years ago and they are working on phase 2 and 3 now.
You could tell that the units had new roofs and paint. Inside there was a new dishwasher, oven and the beds (queen in master, twins in 2nd bedroom, trundle bed in loft) all seemed to have new, firm mattress’s. Each room has a cathedral ceiling with natural wood which
made the rooms seem big. The loft has a spiral stair case and is quite large, big enough for kids to play in. The master bath was average size with an average size tub that did have two whirlpool jets. The guest bedroom had a walk in shower. Everything else worked fine including the fireplace. The views out of the unit were also a big bonus, beautiful sunsets over the lake and the resort itself is located in the woods. There were also many tame deer that walk around the area and our kids even fed them carrots which was a highlight of their vacation.

We went to golf and the course is in reasonably good shape and not crowded. The unit we stayed in was clean and roomy.

The area still remains beautiful and it’s common to have deer and other wildlife running around just outside the units. A good place if you don’t need any amenities.

Timeshare Resales - Resort Review

Set along the pristine Aruba shoreline, Marriott’s Aruba Ocean Club features oceanfront or ocean-view villas, all with a Caribbean flair. Guests will enjoy facilities including a private balcony, whirlpool tub, and fully equipped kitchen. Swimming, golf, tennis, shopping, a day spa, and Champions sports bar and restaurant await on-site and nearby. The adjacent Aruba Marriott Resort and Stellaris Casino features gaming, fine dining, and many other amenities. Aruba’s mainland offers a diverse selection of activities, from water sports to horseback riding, and fabulous shopping.

The unit was a two bedroom lock-off unit. We found the resort excellent and the staff super friendly. This resort meets all the high standards of Marriott timeshares. washer and dryers were located across the building on the second floor.

Having a car is a big plus to get to the many sights on the Island, going into town, and for grocery shopping. Free parking is available at the resort. Ling and Sons IGA grocery store is the best place to shop for groceries. It is the closest to a USA grocery store as you will find. The other grocery stores are dirty looking, small, and higher priced. Ling and Sons IGA is located on a side road, ask for directions in the lobby of the Marriott. The other 3 grocery stores are right on the main road but are not the same quality.

Iguanas walk around the pool area. It was so unusual to see them under your chair or near your feet. They hurry away from you if you get too close. Marriott has a feeding area on the rocks between the Ocean Club and Surf Club. They put out lettuce for the Iguanas to eat. They are in abundance around the pool are colorful geckos that also run under your chairs and feet.

The beach has many water activities that you can partake in for a fee. There is tubing, jet ski’s, a sunset pirate cruise, snorkeling catamaran trips, and scuba diving trips. Red float mats are also available for a daily fee.

The unit itself is very roomy and the kitchen is well stocked with all the needed items. Our unit looked like new and the patios and or balconies have beautiful views.

Timeshare Resales - Resort Review

Discover the truly diverse paradise of Occidental Grand Aruba, where the ocean waters boast a visibility of 150 feet, making underwater photography very popular. In the area, you will find a long list of restaurants and nightclubs. Come and enjoy Aruba and all it has to offer.

The resort is principally an all-inclusive hotel operation consisting of two 9-story buildings (towers) flanking the pool area. It is on Palm Beach, known as the “high rise” area of Aruba, and the beach and palapas are easily accessible from the hotel and timeshare units. The timeshare units are floors 4 – 9 of the south tower and include studio, one-bedroom and two bedroom units.

The timeshares are all converted hotel rooms, thus the one-bedroom unit has two connecting rooms of identical dimensions– one is the living room/dining room with kitchenette; the other room is the bedroom and both have a full bath with tub and shower and separate entrances. The two bedroom unit is a series of three connecting rooms with the center room as living/dining– thus, 3 full baths and each room has a separate balcony, albeit rather small.

Kitchen facilities in the 2-bedroom deluxe is limited to range top, microwave, full refrigerator but no dishwasher. There is daily maid service for the timeshare units and any unwashed dishes left in the sink are always tidied up for us. Maid service has been excellent and the rooms exceptionally clean.

The resort transferred ownership in 2003 when Occidental bought it along with the Allegro Vacation Club chain and designated the Allegro Aruba one of it’s “Grand” locations. The hotel rooms, lobby and other parts of the resort underwent extensive renovations. Recent timeshare purchasers have contracts for mandatory All Inclusive which is about $85 pp/day. Reservations are required at most of the restaurants on the resort. There are many restaurants within easy walking distance and very fine restaurants within a short taxi ride as visitors to Aruba probably know.

The Occidental staff is helpful and responsive whenever you need something.

Timeshare Resales - Resort Review

Renaissance Aruba Resort & Casino offers one-bedroom suites, an array of restaurants, Okeanos Spa, marina, a shopping mall, and shopping marketplace with a wide variety of shops and exclusive boutiques. This is the only resort in Aruba with its own private island with complimentary water taxi. Two swimming pools and two casinos round out the resort’s amenities. Nearby a championship golf course and variety of water sports await.

The resort is in a great location! No beach, but the resort owns a private island and offers a free boat ride to get there (short distance away). Beautiful beach area there. A family beach and a private adult beach. Really nice area with beautiful landscaping and meandering pools. Bar and short order restaurant on site. Frozen drinks great, but expensive. Be sure to hit happy hour, 2 for 1. Ordered sandwiches several days and they were very good. Does not seem to be a full restaurant on site. They had several nights that they offered special dinners. This resort is located in the downtown area with lots of restaurants, shops, nearby. All within walking distance, many right outside our resort. Was not necessary to rent a car. When we wanted to go somewhere else, we called a taxi (always seemed to be one available) and the fare always seemed to be $10. The government regulates the taxi fare; it is not computed on mileage or people sharing. The fare from the airport was under $20.

All of the restaurants were good. Some of our favorites-Wacky Wahoo, QuePasa,The Waterfront Crabhouse, Iguana Joe’s,Smoky Joe’s (cheapest), LGSmith (most expensive).

Tours - the catamaran snorkel trip w/lunch, which was great. Casinos are small and like all casinos-you have to be very lucky!

Aruba has perfect weather! The evenings are delightful for a stroll down the boardwalk at the Marina.

Aruba people are very friendly, courteous, and seem very happy to have us on their island. Hope to return to Aruba again!

Timeshare Resales - Resort Review

Take a dip in the irresistibly clear, warm waters of the Caribbean, or relax on the white, sandy beach at Trafalgar Beach Villas. For nighttime diversions, visit the nearby casino, or dine and enjoy live entertainment within the area. Nearby amenities include boating, fishing, and windsurfing.

Trafalgar Beach Villas in Antigua is a beautiful resort situated on a small, private Caribbean beach. Most of the units have been refurbished with ratan and glass furniture, they have installed TVs, and phones are on the way as they have pulled in the lines.

Many new plants and flowers have been added to the landscaping and it is well maintained. A store on the site is well stocked with the necessities. They have tiled the driveway and walkways bringing completeness to the complex. Also added have been a new swimming pool, new pool furniture, a fine restaurant, and two new beach front units.

the people of Antigua are just the friendliest and the 365 beaches are beyond compare. Antigua has still maintained its rusticity with goats, sheep, chickens, and cows still taking prominence when crossing the roads.

Changes are taking place in the downtown area with new buildings rising. Construction is under way for a new farmer’s market, bus station, and taxi area on the waterfront. The roads in Antigua have gotten so much better. Pot holes are almost extinct!

Restaurants are some of the finest and can be found in all price ranges. Shopping is increasingly better with huge USA style supermarkets. Speaking of shopping — lots to choose from in the duty-free area and clothing manufactured in the islands abound in many shops.

Trafalgar Beach Villas are located about 15 to 20 minutes from the airport and ten minutes to downtown. Oh yes, there is a relatively large casino downtown called “Kings Casino.” There are smaller ones on the island. Trafalgar Beach Villas are the largest of all the timeshare units available on the island. They are spacious, well maintained, and have all the necessities for a wonderful vacation in the Caribbean.

Timeshare Resales - Resort Review

Tradewinds Cruise Club offers a fabulous and different way to experience the Caribbean. You will embark on a weeklong cruise aboard one of the club’s luxury cruising catamarans that will take you to places you would not be able to visit on a land-based vacation. All yachts have four or five guest cabins and one for the crew, who are in charge of the yacht and all cooking. Each day you will sail for an hour or two after breakfast and again after lunch. You will visit different islands most day, ending with cocktails and dinner in quiet bays where the yacht will moor overnight.

This is NOT a cruise that everyone would like. It is very informal, very relaxing, very nature oriented and you got to LOVE water. You are surrounded by it, remember. You have to have the personality to talk to strangers and do it while sitting in your bathing suit 75% of the time. No phone, no lights, no cars.

Don’t over pack. You really only need something for two dinners ashore. The rest of the week is bathing suites and shorts and beach cover ups. Bring several bathing suites, some shorts and Tshirts and leave the rest of the clothes at home. If it is winter, bring a sweatshirt and pants if you get cold easily. Forget about lots of shoes too, as you will likely never wear a shoe when you are onboard. Only when you actually get off the boat. Sunscreen, now bring LOTS of that. I never sit in the sun directly, but the water reflects a lot of sun, and it is very easy to burn. 45 SFP or higher is better. Good polarizing sunglasses are also recommended. The water is very bright and having good glasses works well.

I have starting bring my own insulated mug. You know the kind you get from Starbucks. It keeps ice for many hours and I found it a great thing to have. Beside you always knew which cup was yours.

If there are certain snacks that you like, and they travel well, bring them with you. Snacks are hard to come by and very expensive in the Caribbean, and they usually provide fresh fruits and a desert after dinner, but nothing for snacks except maybe a few crackers.

Unit Features : You basically have access to a catamaran yacht. At this time all of the Antigua Yachts are the 53′ or 56′ Marquises. These have relative roomy main salon, and rear cockpit areas. All of these have 4 guest cabins and a crew cabin.

Size of Unit : No one ever goes on a cruise on a sailboat or a catamaran for the size of the cabin. The cabin is basically a place to sleep, use the bathroom and change, virtually everything else is done in the rear cockpit or the main salon. You have basically a double to queen size bunk. That side in the pontoons of the catamaran. You have limited storage facilities. A small closest to hang up a few items and store bids and draws everywhere one can be placed.

Condition of Unit and Property: The unit was in a good condition and worked as expected. The cabin was clean and in working order. Remember, these are boats. Boats are constantly exposed to the elements and always have a list of items that need fixing or replacing. The key is to not expect a brand new boat, and expect minor incontinences that either can be fixed onsite or are not major enough to have to make a trip to get parts. One thing you learn about living on boats, things break and wear out, and major parts likely have to be sent away for. That is why most boats have some extra parts on board/or at the shop.

Kitchen Features: Someone else is cooking, who cares about the kitchen. Your trip comes with a cook. But you have to not be an overly picky eater. There is usually a choice per night.

Any problems encountered such as check-in problems, room changes, etc.: Check in is easy, you walk on the boat and someone helps you bring your bags to your cabin.

Planned Resort Activities such as welcome parties, barbecues, kid programs, and outings : Every meal together is definitely a resort activity. If you want to help sail, help. If you don’t want to don’t. If you want to learn, just ask. Do what you like.

Resort Amenities: Biggest Pool is the Caribbean, NO wait, it is the Caribbean Sea! Sailing, swimming, kayaking, snorkeling: these are all very conveniently located.

Staff Friendliness and Responsiveness: All of the crews we have had to date have been great.

Convenience to Area Attractions: The Caribbean Sea is the attraction here. Take a single step off the stern and your there. Take a view out the cockpit and your have a 360 degree ocean view. Not many units can boast that for closeness to the water and view.

We are doing the members only location Belize in two week, and members only Corfu in October. So no review will be posted, but I am really looking forward to these.

Additional fees assessed: There is an all inclusive fee of $645 per person. The fee is slightly higher if you are exchanging.

Suitability of Resort for couples, families, relaxing, partying, etc. Couples, yes, Families, NO, as no children under 15 are allowed. Partying is minimal; there may be a night that people stay up. Getting up early and being out in the sun and water all day is tiring.

Timeshare Resales - Resort Review

Las Olas means “the waves,” which can be seen from your private balcony at this oceanfront resort. The Atlantic Ocean is just outside your door. For your enjoyment, the resort has an outdoor pool, a whirlpool, beach volleyball, barbecue grills, a picnic area, and 600 feet of beach. Make the most of your visit with a round of golf on one of the several recommended area courses. The family-style atmosphere encourages weekly get-togethers that will make you feel welcome. The resort does offer scheduled activities.

The resort has much to recommend it, and a few minor drawbacks. It is more of an adult resort than a family-with-children resort. Partly this has to do with the beach, which has a sudden drop-off into deeper water, and a number of underwater rocks, which could be dangerous to small children. The surf here is much heavier than at Cocoa Beach, 12 miles to the north.

Children can, of course, use the beach, but parents should be extremely watchful. The resort does furnish beach chairs, so there is no need to bring your own. Additionally, the activities are oriented to the adult guest, though this is not to say children might not enjoy some of them. The resort is rightly proud of its activity schedule, and the staff goes out of their way to make visitors feel at home.

Exchangers here are not treated as second class citizens, and the staff are extremely friendly and helpful. Activities included a wine and cheese welcome party, a Karoke party with light refreshments furnished a pot luck party at which the resort staff grilled burgers and dogs, furnished bread and drinks, and guests brought a favorite dish. There was also a hermit crab race with margaritas by the pool, and some additional activities.

The resort beach is much less crowded than other beaches in the area, and we enjoyed this relative isolation tremendously. The pool was excellent, and the large in-ground jacuzzi was enjoyed nightly.

The resort consists of a North building and a South building, each of which contain 20 units, five to a floor on floors 2 through 6. The ground floor of each building has covered parking, which is very nice for guests. Units 1 to 5 are on the floors of the North building, while units 6 to 10 are located in the South building. All units are ocean front, have an unusually large balcony which is excellently furnished with patio furniture. All units are 2-bedroom and all are ocean front.

The interior units are over 1400 square feet while end units are over 2200 square feet. The layout is spacious, extremely well maintained, nicely furnished, and very comfortable. A VCR is furnished with the living room TV, and the resort has a special arrangement with a movie rental store close by. You show your unit key and thus do not need ID, and you get a discount as well.

I can recommend this resort highly for an exchange, I believe that exchanges here may be somewhat hard to come by, as apparently many of the owners use their units each year, but as an afterthought there were many individuals in the 40 units available who were exchangers, so this may not be the case after the high season of summer is over.

Timeshare Resales - Resort Review

Saturday, June 21st, 2008

Amidst rolling valleys and a protected wildlife sanctuary, Residence Club offers magnificent views of the Batiquitos Lagoon, a championship Arnold Palmer golf course, and the Pacific Ocean. It reflects outstanding service and surroundings that are hallmarks of Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts. Each finely appointed two-bedroom, three-bathroom villa includes fireplace, full kitchen, and three private balconies. Guests enjoy an exclusive clubhouse, fitness center, and pool, and share access to the amenities of the Four Seasons Resort Aviara.

Very enjoyable stay at Four Seasons Aviara Travelled with family of four, and got a unit with a great location, could walk off the back patio when going to and from the pool.

So much to do on first visit to the area we never used any of the hotel facilities, must go back another time for that !

Do make use of their e-concierge service, you can email them with any requests prior to arrival (as would be expected with any top end resort… don’t think timeshare alone, think top end hotel). They asked how we would like to handle sleeping arrangements, then made up the sofa bed in advance (with fine linens and duvet).

Unit is huge and wonderful, very high standard of finish, including huge flat screen Sony TVs throughout, a great instant gas flame fireplace, plush bathrobes for all guests… and the list goes on. Internet access and very high speed access.

Pool is huge, with great pool crew setting up towels etc on your arrival at the pool.

Spent hours playing table tennis by the pool, plus used the tennis courts a few times… but again, rarely stayed in the place.

Made a couple of runs to Trader Joes in Encinitas (10 minutes), but also to Vons (three minutes away), which was well set up.

Traffic on I5 between Carlsbad and San Diego was heavy at almost all times, but pilgrimages had to be made to SD Zoo and Seaworld. Legoland was close for the young kids, plus the Wild Animal Park is a great set up..

I assume that many owners rent their unit out privately, as the only sign that this was a timeshare was some notices received on arrival on special owner offers for spa and golf. Interestingly, other than that they never contacted us concerning a timeshare tour, nor even left a voicemail.

We are definitely interested in coming back. This is a great resort.
